According to trusted sources, Google’s upcoming version of Android is set to release on August 21. The company will push the new version to its flagship device, Google Pixel on August 21. 

Articles published on Android Police suggest that Google will release the stable version of Android O on August 21. Evan Blass, a reporter at Venture Beat has tweeted confirming the same news. Even Blass is known for leaking important tech news. The article published on Android Police states that Android O will be released on the same day as upcoming Solar Eclipse. 

Google is yet to announce the name for Android O. It is possible that the final release and name reveal happen on the same date. Android O is currently in developer preview 4 stage. Preview 4 would probably be the last release before Google publishes the final version on August 21. 

Android 8.0 final build will feature fixes for all reported bugs and issues. The release on August 21 will also feature final APIs (API level 26) for developers. The Android studio version will be ready to use for developers as soon as Google releases the final build next week. A lot of developers have already signed up for the Android Beta Program. Google offers latest builds and preview versions as part of the program.

Android Beta Program lets you sideload OTA files, manually flash system images and test features of the upcoming Android system on your device. The final Android O build will be pushed to developers enrolled in Android Beta Program. Google has been pushing Preview updates to Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel XL, Nexus Player and Pixel C. 

As far as the name of Android O is concerned, the internal code reveals that Android O could be called ‘Oatmeal Cookie’. The source code of preview build is codenamed as ‘oc-dev’ suggests that Android O could stand for 'oatmeal cookie'. The word was repeatedly used at Google I/O this year.
